Sport Administration


The Master of Science in Sport Administration is designed for students who want a business degree that applies an in-depth understanding of the sport business industry.


A focus on the business side of sports

Students in this program focus on sports as a business, acquiring the skills required to be an asset to athletic programs, athletes and fans in roles such as athletic director, media relations executive, facilities director, accounting or finance manager, and many others.

Students acquire a strong business foundation in accounting, finance, management, marketing, analytics, and law, while having the opportunity to tailor electives to career goals.

The 30-credit-hour sport business graduate program is ideal for anyone looking to enter the sport management field. No business prerequisites are required as the program provides a solid foundation in the field.

The Master of Science in Sport Administration is open to eligible students from all undergraduate majors. Based on the applicant鈥檚 undergraduate degree, the applicant will take three general business foundation courses or three advance business foundation courses as part of the sport administration core.

Admissions criteria

To be considered for the Master of Science in Sport Administration, students must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited college or university.
  • a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
  • official transcripts from institutions attended
  • a resume

These minimum requirements serve as the basis for evaluation. Decisions are made after all application materials are received.

Program format

The School of Business specialized master's in Sport Administration is offered face-to-face with courses primarily held on the SBU campus. 

Weekday format: Classes are held once a week in the late afternoon (typically 2:30-5:10 p.m.) or early evening (6-8:40 p.m.). Students can take up to five courses per semester in a traditional semester-length format.

Students may enroll to take classes part time or full time.

    May 16, 吃瓜群众 | Dr. Janhavi Shankar Tripathi, assistant professor of Finance, will present his latest research on the relationship between international trade and economic growth in the era of geoeconomic fragmentation at the 吃瓜群众 International Trade and Finance Association (ITFA) Conference, May 27-29 at Fairfield University in Connecticut.
